OMSI is a realistic Omnibus simulator for your home PC. Go back in time to West Berlin of the late 80´s. Be a bus driver on the former Omnibus PC route 92 on a seven mile route across the district of Spandau.
Take control of one of the contemporary buses and drive on the roads of Berlin. There are several detailed versions of the MAN double-deckers SD200 and SD202 available from different years of construction. The realistic replication of each vehicle provides true to original simulation in matters of drivability and amount of operating the vehicle.
A high detailed gearbox control, physical simulation of the compressed air system as well as a fully functional IBIS and an impressive sound environment guarantee a near perfect level of reality. The lively outside world surprises the user with a realistic landscape, heavy traffic and lots of animated objects.
What originally comes off as something completely mindless ends up turning out to be an incredibly exhilarating action games that truly tests your skills…and also happens to have a lot of fun moments that are completely mindless.
OmniBus would work better if it rolled with its own punches instead of creating a system that only exists to be fought with—the reward is smaller when randomness does so much of the grunt work. Just sit back and let the car drive you into the sun. Life just flies by so fast when you’re having fun.
As a joke Omnibus might be fun for a few hours, but playing it through legitimately, level by level, is an exercise in diminishing patience.
Almost in spite of itself, though, OmniBus is still somehow fun. It may be short on coherence and play like a tech demo from a mid-90s game conference, but in spite of itself, careening through its poorly-rendered world is still worth a chuckle.
The developers of OmniBus decided to put humor over fun and created a game that might do well for a couple of Twitch streamers or YouTubers, as I can imagine it might be fun to watch. But it sure isn't fun to play.
Authors of this crazy arcade game failed to come up with a nice mixture of frustration and satisfaction. The bus controls aren’t comfortable and your skills has only a limited role in missions. Completed levels don´t bring much satisfaction – and without it you’ll get only an ugly game that quickly gets on your nerves.
