On December 7, 1941, a major part of the U. S. Pacific navy stationed at Pearl Harbor was assaulted by Japanese planes.
Japanese fighters were destroying American aircraft on land and in the air, without giving them a chance for a counterattack. The furious battle of Pearl Harbor became the first in the sequence of gory sea combats. Now you can take part in all major Pacific battles of World War II.
Pacific Storm is a mixture of Real-Time Strategy, war-game and simulator. All major and important sea battles of World War II, which took place in the Pacific Ocean, are included and you can play either for the USA or Japan. Mine the resources (money, iron and nickel ore, bauxites and oil), train various units and retaliate! Sink’em all!.
Pacific Storm is a remarkable offering for armchair commanders who enjoy micromanaging all aspects of war. The only real disappointment I had with the game was the mismatched background music.
An ambitious, well-done project covering an often under-looked theatre of operation.
Pacific Storm is an entirely original experience. Though there are a number of good games that simulate either the operational or tactical aspects of the war, none have combined the two into the complete experience you get with Pacific Storm.
Whether you like the feel of strategic buildup and planning for the big war or as tactician in battles Pacific Storm has enough variety that it sets itself apart from previous strategy games.
Merge the complexity of a real-time navel strategy game with the hand-on-joystick appeal of an arcade flight simulator and you get Pacific Storm, an ambitious but buggy new RTS title from Russian developer Lesta Studio. [Jan. 2007, p.74]
There’s some solid strategy tucked behind the overpowering interface and lackluster graphics, but a few serious errors, clunky controls, and some really poor audio in the form of bad music and repetitive speech make Pacific Storm a frustrating experience overall.
Whether you want--or need--to play all of these in the same game remains a question that Pacific Storm is unable to answer. [Jan. 2007, p.65]
