Become a prophet in a futuristic technocratic society in this cyberpunk RTS. Set the code of your belief, convert citizens to cult members, upgrade them to fighting units and rid the city of non-believers. Turn your ideals into the most powerful religion.
Re-Legion is based on some interesting ideas and has a nice cyberpunk setting. Sadly there’s only one game mode (the single player campaign), and overall the game feels very easy due to a lackluster AI.
Re-Legion is a great example of a good idea that is failed by the sum of its parts. It's not a bad game by a long shot, but it's also not what I would call great or even good. It's serviceable, it works (other than two frustrating crashes), it has a beautiful visual aesthetic and a great lead voice actor. But when you make a game centered around building a cult, when you set out with the intent of making player choice matter so that you have a real option of peace or chaos, you have to make it so.
This cyberpunk RTS may be fresh and unconventional in terms of setting, but there are too many gameplay and technical flaws. It’s pretty to look at and listen to, but that doesn’t compensate for poor story and weak AI.
With good reason, Re-Legion is getting missed reviews in the Steam Marketplace. RTS fans are disappointed because the concept seemed so new! An RTS that focuses on conversion rather than building factories or buildings to convert armies. It’s a really cool idea, but the implementation was not there. It’s upsetting, really. Everyone who picks it up really wants to like it because the vision of the developers is very clear. They clearly have a love and understanding of what they are going for, but they may not have had the right team in place to make it happen for them.
It’s clear that Re-Legion arrived to Steam with an early-access standard present. The sound effects, voice acting, visual quality, common bugs, and even menu design all seem unprepared and shabby. Saving the game in a given level takes 30 seconds or more, and there remains eight to ten hours of content prior to completion, lacking even a range of difficulty levels for another go-round.
