Why Be Famous When You Can Be Infamous?Return to the glory days of role-playing and adventure with this humor-filled fantasy epic, styled in the vein of classic PC RPGs, where you play the charming villain. Blending turn-based combat and spellcasting with puzzle solving and adventure, players can choose from three character classes -- brigand (strength), rogue (stealth), or sorcerer (magic), each with unique storylines and adventures -- in one of the largest retro role-playing experiences ever. A spiritual heir to yesteryear's heroic quests, adventurers are invited to explore a world of hand-drawn wonder, as they wind their way through trap-infested dungeons, battle slavering beasts with swords or custom-made spells, and steal entire town's worth of treasure from unsuspecting townsfolk.
Being bad has never felt so good!.
Excluding the fighting, the absence of a map and a quest log and the double-edged sword of freedom of exploration, Quest for Infamy has everything it takes to make an adventurer happy.
A true labor of love, Quest for Infamy celebrates the legend of Sierra On-Line of yore, even as it probably terrifies and mystifies anyone born after 1994 or so. A huge game, chock full of content, it will make you work for every inch of ground you get and always manage to leave a smile on your face.
A lovingly-crafted though flawed adventure in the Sierra mold.
An interesting genre mix of Quest for Infamy comes with a lot of interesting elements bringing a feel into the game you may decide freely as well as fulfill your goals differently. After some time, however, the game qualities are struck down by inferior game design, fewer ideas, and stereotypical battles.
Quest for Infamy is an ambitious, often entertaining homage that has all the ingredients for success, but the overall experience is impaired by uneven humour and lacklustre combat.
Still, I do kind of like Quest for Infamy, even though it doesn't hold a candle to the original. For a price of almost 15 Euros, that's a bit sad.
It’s a shame that Infamy devolves into such juvenile practices as there are some nice flourishes on display – for instance, the hand-drawn aesthetic lends a quaint, homely feel to adventuring that feels refreshing in light of the grandeur that western RPGs typically strive for – yet it’s impossible to root for a game that makes such a critical misstep.
