Will you survive the Ragn'Narok? Thrilling action role playing game, Confrontation, lets you lead a Griffin Elite Squad in missions through the territory of the fearsome Scorpion creatures, the terrible Wolfen packs, or the brutal Bran-Ô-Kor Orcs. Along with a perilous solo campaign and numerous secondary missions, recruit Elite warriors that will fight by your side and build the best squad to complete your mission objectives! Each of your warriors has its own unique characteristics. Earn experience, level up after battles and improve the weapons, armor and spells of your team.
Get to know your enemy, anticipate his actions and exploit his weaknesses! Good management of your units and of their spells will be paramount to your success. A video game adaptation of the famous Board Game, Confrontation PC is a tactical role-playing-game, that showcases intense and strategic comba.
Thanks to a deep setting and an excellent development, Confrontation is probably one of the best action RPGs avalaible nowadays on the market. A little problem with pathfinding and a too marked linearity, prevent this game from reaching excellence.
Despite its tactical combat system, as well as the development of character and weapons, Confrontation turned out to be a disappointment. The game is too linear and repetitive, with no side quests or any other excuse to take a moment to pause and explore the maps. Plus, it has a complex story, told with discontinuities and hard to follow, along with dated graphics which make the game not too enjoyable.
Think about a Diablo-like game without any loot system, or a Dragon Age without dialogue. Then you have an idea of what the true nature of Confrontation is. A game which is neither a role-playing game nor an RTS title.
Confrontation manages to score some points in a few areas, for example the concept. Also, the combat can get pretty difficult at times and encourages a tactical mind, which is a plus. Thank the heavens for the included pause button. Unfortunately, most of the ideas are very poorly executed and the gameplay is incredibly linear. For a 39.99 euro game, we would have expected more. A lot more.
I love RPGs and strategy games, and I really didn't enjoy it. On the other hand, it's decent enough that I can see some people enjoying it. If you like the idea of fine-tuning tactics with a small squad during repetitive combat for 40 hours, then you might find something here. If that's not your thing, you should probably just replay Dragon Age: Origins or Dawn of War II.
The only thing you will find confrontational will be the game itself.
Really, being boring is Confrontation's greatest flaw. Sure, there's a slew of frustrations, both technical and design, but those are oddly welcome after the tedium of everything else.
