Take command of Saracen warriors in a brand-new single player campaign that will take you far from the battlefields of Europe. Follow another path of history and help Saladin protect his desert lands against the Crusaders. Unique new units will help you crush your enemies in 5 story-based missions and on 3 new maps for multiplayer and skirmish mode.
The new units, setting, and the story makes for a nice little package that feels fairly priced. If you liked Ancestors Legacy and just wanted a reason to go back to the title, then Saladinâs Conquest is about as good a reason as any. Thereâs nothing wrong with whatâs on show here, however, despite the new things mentioned it does have a âmore of the sameâ feeling to it. Thatâs not necessarily a bad thing and no one is expected to reinvent the wheel each time - especially if itâs an extension of whatâs already there. And whatâs there is technically sound, from the AI to the optimization. Itâs hard to fault Developer Destructive Creations for wanting to squeeze a bit more capital out of their solid title.
Saladinâs Conquest offers an interesting and accurate campaign, however, in terms of gameplay, the DLC lacks the amount of content needed to be recommended, especially when its price enters the equation.
The DLC promises six hours-ish of gameplay, and my experience matches that comfortably. If youâre a multiplayer gamer, Iâd probably pass, but thatâs not the fault of the DLC. If you are looking for a decent story, reminiscent of the good old days of narrative campaigns in the style of Age of Empires II, I think itâs worth your time â just try not to think too deeply â lest you begin to spot some gaps.
